Going from a world cup win to being sacked.
After the summer of a lifetime, the Spanish women’s coach Jorge Vilda has been sacked as head coach.
After the euros 2022, fifteen players departed the Spanish side and refused to play under their head coach with only three players making their return for the World Cup. Many came forward and said he had put them under emotional distress and an unwelcoming environment.
Fast forward to the world cup where the spanish team beat Sarina Weigman’s side 1-0. During celebrations Luis Rubiales (Spanish official) was caught giving Jenni Hermoso a kiss on the lips which she soon came forward to say she didn’t consent to.
Luis Rubiales gave a speech at the RFEF assembly including how he refused to resign. Jorge Vilda was sat front row and clapped during Rubiales speech pushing the decision to be sacked even more. Rubiales was soon punished with a ninety day suspension, players from many clubs and international sides are continuing to defend Jenni Hermoso and speak up on what’s happened.
Before being sacked, Vilda was allegedly offered a four-year contract to continue with his spanish team worth €500,000 by Rubiales but its now official he shall not make a return to the spanish side.
